We'd been told that the cruise ship would have wi-fi. It does, for 7 euros for one hour in the lounge; even then we heard it was painfully slow. So, no. And, even though our cabin has a single 110v power outlet, I can't charge the laptop because its an old style plug with only two prongs. So I will do what I can and catch up when we get back to civilization on Monday.
This morning we left our hotel at about 9:00 and headed over the Port of Pireaus to board the Celestyal Olympia. This boat is about 35 years old and has an 80's look to it. But its in pretty good shape. We understand there are 1600 passengers and 500 crew. So its a "medium" size cruise ship. There are tourists on board from all over the world, mostly in organized groups like us.
After the airline-like check in procedures were completed, we set sail for Mykonos by about 11:00 AM. We ate lunch in the big dining room, took a little nap, and arrved at Mykonis at about 5:00. The weather started out rainy, but by afternoon had cleared enough to see.
At 6:00PM our intrepid band of Idahoans disembarked and took a bus for a short ride "into town" (along with 1500 other people). There is only our cruise ship here now. Our guide said in the summer high season there might be 5 or 6 here; that's hard to imagine!
For the next couple of hours we walked around the village shops. Its too bad it was dark for most of that time. All the buildings are whitewashed, just like in the pictures. Mykonos is know for the windmills, 5 of which we saw at the top of the hill. We understand that are some 300 of these scattered around the island. They're used as grist mills.
Back to the ship by 9:30, late dinner, crashed into our single beds in our tiny cabin.
The ship will sail overnight and in the morning we'll be in Kusadasi for our tour of Ephasus.
