Travel Day - Sleepless

Saturday, Oct 17, 2915. Up at 4:30AM to catch a taxi to the airport. We were to meet the rest of our travelling buddies at 6:00 (about 35 of us). Everyone accounted for, our flight left Boise for Chicago right on time. Uneventful flight to Chicago, then hang around O'Hare for about 4 hours until boarding our Luftansa 747 for the 7.5 hours to Frankfurt, Germany. Then hang around Frankfurt for four hours until we boarded our Aegean 3 hour flight to Thessalonica, Greece. Whew! BTW, both Luftansa and Aegean gave us really nice meals!

Great views of the recent first snowfall on the Austrian Alps out the window. Frankfurt airport is HUGE! There were literally hundreds of Luftanza airplanes around. Never seen so many Jumbos at once  - 747, 777, Airbus A380 (the double decker) stacked up all around!

If this all sounds "routine", let me tell you it is not! You experienced world travelers will understand. We left Boise at 4:30AM; left Chicago at 4:00PM Chicago time; arrived Frankfurt at 7:30 AM Frankfurt time, ready for another day (Sunday, I think). Arrived Thessalonica at 4:00PM their time. So, overnight, the 9 hours we'd normally be sleeping vanished into thin air!

Anyway, all is well. Our bus and tour guide, Zina, met us at the airport. We drove about 30 minutes through the city and arrived at our hotel, The Met. Hotel seems fine, but its not in a very nice part of town. They did a really nice buffet dinner. Then we all crashed by 9:00. Back at it at 7:00!

P.S. Internet speed here is lightning fast!

  1. Wouldn't want to be a sleep walker if you lived in those cliff top monestaries!! Beautiful photos! Looks like good weather. A bit hazy in some of the places?
